The celebration of the 20th anniversary of Stargate at San Diego Comic-Con was more than a get-together by the fans of the film and its three spin-off series. It was the opportunity that MGM needed to make an announcement. Two, actually.
According to Deadline, the show we love and miss is returning for a ten-episode series, called Stargate Origins. It will be a streaming video-on-demand show (price to stream is currently unknown). In addition, MGM announced Stargate Command, the site where fans can go to view Origins, as well as access new content. Deadline says that Stargate Command will also be a “fan experience.”
You can find more information at StargateCommand.co. (Note the co, not dot-com; if you go to StargateCommand.com, you’ll find a fan site.)
The new show focuses on Catherine Langford, the daughter of Professor Langford who discovered the Stargate in Giza. She appeared in five episodes -- including the wacky "1969" -- and was instrumental in creating the Stargate project.
“We saw a need for a definitive hub for the Stargate fanbase to continue to enjoy news and content, both old and new,” said Chris Ottinger, President, Worldwide Television Distribution & Acquisitions, MGM. “Stargate Command will open a new door for the community to celebrate and interact with all content in a way that has never been done before.”
