For most of us, Halloween is the dominant holiday in our brains for the next three weeks, if not longer. If your job is to market entertainment, though, odds are you're already looking ahead to the Christmas season, and that means trailers for this year's holly jolly offerings are already beginning to make their way out into the world. The bad news is that might cramp your Halloween style just a tiny bit. The good news is we get Kurt Russell as Santa Claus.
Yes, Kurt Russell — the legendary star of Escape From New York, Big Trouble in Little China, and, recently, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 — has grown out his lovely silver beard once again, and this time it's so he can play Father Christmas himself in the new Netflix original movie The Christmas Chronicles. Directed by Clay Kaytis (The Angry Birds Movie) and produced by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone), the film follows a pair of children (Darby Camp and Judah Lewis) who attempt to prove Santa is real by catching him on video. In the process, they find the proof they're looking for, but also almost ruin Christmas.
Luckily for them, this Santa isn't the one we're used to. He doesn't look like the guy in the Coca-Cola ads. He's charming and sprightly and ready to mix it up in the human world as much as he has to if it means saving his holiday. The result is a delightful trailer that will hopefully lead to a delightful movie.
The Christmas Chronicles hits Netflix on Thanksgiving Day, which means you and the family can cozy up to watch it as soon as the turkey leftovers are in the fridge. Meanwhile, check out the poster below.
