It's monster versus monster in Godzilla's most amazing trailer yet.
We've known for a very long time now that director Gareth Edwards' re-imagining of the King of the Monsters would include more than one kaiju beast, and we've even had a glimpse or two at what the second, still-unnamed monster will look like. That doesn't mean we've really been able to sink our teeth into just how big this clash would be, though. Now, thanks to a new international trailer for the next Godzilla flick, we've got our chance.
The trailer, released just hours ago by Godzilla production company Legendary Pictures, features new snippets of dialogue and kaiju footage, and also might just be the biggest dose of awesome we've gotten from the flick yet. And considering how quickly this film's trailers have grown from interest-generating to flat-out badass, that's really saying something. Check it out.
See what I mean? The stakes just keep growing with every trailer we see, and as for that other monster ... well, he (or she) still doesn't have a name, but in full flight he kinda looks a bit like Rodan ( we're not saying it is Rodan, but the imagery is definitely evocative). Even if he never gets a name, though, seeing him face off against Godzilla is enough to give us goosebumps at this point, and the references to "a god" and Ken Watanabe's "Let them fight" line add a nice mythological tone that's in keeping with some of the most epic aspects of the Godzilla mythos. This movie can't get here fast enough.
Godzilla hits theaters on May 16.
