After almost a decade of downtime, J.R.R. Tolkien's world of Middle-earth is coming back to the big screen, and the latest trailer for The Hobbit shows off all the Lord of the Rings-esque action we've been missing.

With the first installment of the Hobbit trilogy opening in December, director Peter Jackson is starting to show a little more of his hand with some snippets of new action footage and a little more of Gollum.

It looks good, with massive effects work that looks even better than the original Lord of the Rings trilogy (if that's even possible).

The brief bits of new footage just show off the scope Jackson is shooting for, taking Tolkien's smaller tale and packing it with as much action and drama as possible. Plus, Gollum looks as creepy as ever.

Check out the trailer below:

The film opens Dec. 14, with two more films set for release in subsequent years.

Will you be there for opening night?
