Described as “Chronicle meets Iron Man,” J.D. Dillard's genre-bending movie Sleight – which is a cool blend of sci-fi and street magic – will soon work its magic upon us. The film made some buzz at the Sundance Film Festival, where WWE and BH Tilt acquired distribution rights for the U.S.
Slated to open in theaters on April 28, Sleight follows Jacob Latimore as Bo, a young street magician who is “left to care for his little sister after their parents passing and turns to illegal activities to keep a roof over their heads. When he gets in too deep, his sister is kidnapped and he is forced to use his magic and brilliant mind to save her.”
From what I gleaned in the trailer below, Bo either uses some very powerful magnets to create the illusion that he possesses magic, or he does have special powers boosted by those magnets (which would totally explain the whole “Chronicle meets Iron Man” bit). Either way, I’m intrigued.
Sleight also stars Seychelle Gabriel, Dulé Hill, Sasheer Zamata and Storm Reid, who will next be seen in a starring role in Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time (2018). As for J.D. Dillard, his follow-up movie project (if he signs on the dotted line) will be the 20th Century Fox remake of The Fly.
