One of the supreme hallmarks of the Star Trek Universe has always been its sophisticated sense of design in its characters, costumes, weapons, furnishings, exotic locales, and especially those striking starships, shuttles, and battlecruisers blazing across the entire 52-year-old franchise. Now SYFY WIRE has an exclusive look at how a few of them came together.

From mainline Federation flagships like the noble Enterprise and the ominous Klingon Bird-Of-Prey, to swooping Romulan Warbirds and industrial Borg Cubes, these outer space vehicles of all flavors glitter brightly in the Star Trek cosmos.

Written by Joe Nazzaro, Star Trek: The Art of John Eaves is a 208-page coffee-table edition from Titan Books landing Nov. 27 that celebrates the works of the veteran artist and special effects master and SYFY WIRE has an exclusive VIP tour inside.

Eaves has been playing in the Star Trek sandbox for over three decades and his vast contributions to the franchise's starship design can't be overestimated. Since his impactful work on Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, this talented illustrator's imaginings have bejeweled Gene Roddenberry's beloved property with a treasure of props, energy weapons, and starships, including the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-E and U.S.S. Discovery NCC-1031.

Showcasing 30 years of pencil sketches, outlines, and evocative concept art, this impressive book delivers fans an in-depth look into Eaves' process.

"The '70s and '80s brought back Star Trek in feature films and as a youngster wanting to work in the VFX and movie art world Trek was a constant inspiration," Eaves told SYFY WIRE. "Being a fan of modelmaker Greg Jein forever, we met on a project and when we finished he asked if I wanted to join his crew on Star Trek 5. With a big yes, a new friendship started and the adventure of Star Trek was about to begin."

Eaves considered it a real treat to travel down memory lane and pull out art and photographs that have not been looked at in forever.

"The Titan folks and writer Joe Nazzaro have really put together a very nice compilation touching on just about every film and show I have been so fortunate to be a part of. The inspiration of artists Greg Jein, Ron Cobb, Syd Mead, Joe Johnston and so many more are at the roots of my Hollywood career and their influences are mentioned throughout Joe's wonderful writings. Star Trek is a fantastic imaginary world that has brought generations of fans together for the last 50+ years. With this book you get a little peek from behind the scenes and we all hope you all enjoy it."
