Following hot on the heels of Avatar: The Last Airbender, which became a giant hit during its streaming life on Netflix (dominating the service’s Top Ten most-watched list) since arriving earlier this summer, the animated series’ follow-up is on its way. The Legend of Korra is also coming to Netflix.
The show, also a Nickelodeon original, follows the new Avatar — Korra — who follows in Aang (the titular Last Airbender)’s footsteps. Fans that missed it the first time around will be able to binge it starting on Aug. 14, according to a Netflix tweet:
The four-season show, from Avatar creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, is a sequel series set seven decades after the original. The characters are all tangentially related to the original crew, but with a decidedly female twist and a whole new host of problems.
Netflix also announced today that both seasons of Cobra Kai — the fan-favorite show based on the Karate Kid universe that originally aired on YouTube — will hit the service on Aug. 28. A third season, which has no release date, is on its way to the service as an exclusive.
Next, one of Quibi's biggest genre shows dropped its first trailer. Don't Look Deeper — a near-future sci-fi show about a high schooler that discovers she's not quite human — comes with a high pedigree: directed by Twilight's Catherine Hardwicke and showrun by Lost's Jeffrey Lieber, the show stars Helena Howard, Don Cheadle, and Emily Mortimer.
Don't Look Deeper looks to show off some spooky conspiracy subplots, Westworld-esque AI and robotics, and mysterious powers — all operating underneath plenty of high school drama, of course. Take a look at the first trailer below:
How many high-tech twists and turns can be jammed into episodes that only run for a few minutes at a time? Don't Look Deeper's going to push the service to its limits, as headless 'bots and vibration-induced freakouts set the stage for a vast and complex sci-fi mystery.
Don't Look Deeper hits Quibi on July 27.
Finally, one of San Diego Comic-Con@Home’s heaviest hitters has released a teaser for their upcoming antics. Star Trek — which is showcasing not one, not two, but three separate Trekkie shows at its SDCC panel — dropped a bit of a tease ahead of its July 23 panel.
The panel, which features guests from Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and Star Trek: Picard, looks to tempt attendees with all-star speakers (Sir Patrick Stewart!) and new footage.
Take a look:
That new footage, from the upcoming animated Star Trek: Lower Decks, will be one of the first looks fans have had at the comic take on the Trek universe. There will also be cast Q&As, a table read, and much more.
Those looking for full details on the July 23 panel can find them here.
