The CW is pulling out all the stops for the second season of Legends of Tomorrow, and the roster for the Justice Society of America just added one heck of a genre legend.
Lance Henriksen, known for his iconic roles in everything from Alien to MIllennium, has signed on to play JSA member Obsidian. The casting coup was announced at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour. His character (traditionally) has the power to merge with his own shadow and possess the shadows of others. No word on exactly how they’ll adapt the power set for television.
In the comic canon, the character is also the son of Golden Age Green Lantern Alan Scott (might we finally see a Green Lantern in the Arrow-verse?). On the page, Obsidian was first introduced in a 1983 All-Star Squadron run and joined the modern Justice Society in 2007.
With Henriksen locked in, we now know pretty much all the JSA roster we’ll see this fall. He joins Patrick J. Adams as Hourman, Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Vixen, Matthew MacCaull as Commander Steel and Sarah Grey as Star Girl. Doctor Mid-Nite will also reportedly show up, though the studio has yet to announce casting on that front.
Legends of Tomorrow premieres Oct. 13 on The CW.
