The CW’s Legends of Tomorrow has become one of the zaniest shows on television, and work is well underway on Season 3. Turns out the time-traveling adventure will be heading to the 1980s and digging into Ray Palmer’s origin story.
Brandon Routh (aka Ray Palmer/The Atom) dropped a set pic featuring an old school DeLorean, and the connections to Back to the Future were not lost on him. The fourth episode of the season looks to be set in the 1980s, and though the series has already included more than a few nods to the Back to the Future franchise, the subtlety looks to go out the window this year. Which is fine — this show is rarely subtle, and it’s all the more fun for that certain brand of direct craziness.
The Back to the Future jokes will almost certainly be flying, and with any luck, hopefully that DeLorean will, too. Hey, if anyone can do it, it’s Ray Palmer. Right?
Some casting news around the episode looks to fill in some of the 1980s story gaps, with Jessica Jones alum Susie Abromeit (she played Hogarth’s girlfriend Pam) cast to play a younger version of Ray’s mother. The episode will be titled “Phone Home,” and apparently dive into some darker aspects of Ray’s childhood.
Legends of Tomorrow returns October 10 on The CW.
