If you haven’t been watching Star Wars: Rebels, now is the time to start.

The animated prequel series has grown from a relatively simple pitch into a rich, fascinating tale digging deep into the era before the original trilogy. Its second season has introduced some iconic elements from those films (as well as from The Clone Wars), and now Princess Leia and Darth Vader are set to play an even bigger role in the back half of Season 2 — but there’s also a fascinating thread that ties into The Force Awakens (despite the fact that Rebels is set a few decades before the latest big-screen sequel).

A new trailer via Entertainment Weekly shows off a ton of fresh footage from Season 2, as we see Ezra continuing to develop his Force powers and the temptation of the Dark Side that comes as those powers grow. Yoda pops up to give some advice, and even a mysterious hooded figure who should look vaguely familiar for fans of the prequel trilogy (is that Darth Maul, methinks?).

But arguably the most interesting part? Ezra finds himself a crossguard lightsaber made famous by Kylo Ren, which we now know is an ancient design that Ren emulated in The Force Awakens. The one Ezra finds is green, and seems to be better made than Ren’s saber (the blade seems to be much more stable, at least). Could Ezra have stumbled upon an ancient Jedi temple? Whose lightsaber is that?

Check out the extended trailer below, and go ahead and set your DVR for Disney XD when this show returns Jan. 20.
