While yesterday the Game of Thrones producers promised the fans the largest land battle ever this season, another story, this time of a much more intimate nature, will reach an “all-time weird level.”
I'm talking about the twisted relationship between everyone’s favorite Twincest couple, Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Cersei (Lena Headey) Lannister. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Heady opened up about what’s in store for Cersei in the show’s upcoming sixth season, and what her relationship with her brother will be like.
“It’s probably her most interesting season. She really has nothing to lose and she has everything to gain from a horrible position she finds herself in.”
Headey’s performance last season earned her a well-deserved Emmy nom. Her character had her most grueling year yet; being imprisoned in the Red Keep and then having to endure that mortifying Walk of Shame through the streets of King’s Landing stark naked (well...Lena's body double was) while the assembled crowd jeered and threw her a vegetable or two.
And it’s that experience that'll apparently hang over Cersei’s head as she finally reunites with Jaime, who will no doubt be racked with guilt over failing in his mission to bring their daughter back from Dorne alive. Just look at the poor man -->
While I think we can definitely expect Cersei to lash out at her brother at the news of Myrcella’s (Nell Tiger Free) death, Cersei will turn to Jaime for help in defeating the Faith Militant under the leadership of the High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce), whose power grab in King’s Landing is growing stronger than ever. Heady said:
“Her relationship with Jaime is at an all-time weird level,” says Headey, who then adds about the new episodes: “It’s juicy, and it’s so f–king dark.”
There you have it. Bring. It. On. Lannister Twincest for the win!
Game of Thrones returns April 24 on HBO.
