A Lexus research team just made the coolest hoverboard we've ever seen

Yes, we’ve had some workable hoverboards pop up in recent years, but this new kit from Lexus looks cool enough to actually give Marty McFly’s ride a run for its money.

The luxury can manufacturer has apparently had an R&D team working to crack the hoverboard problem, and they’ve come up with arguably the most beautiful thing you’ll ever see at a skatepark. Similar to the Hendo hoverboard we saw a while back, Lexus’ board also uses magnets to stay afloat — meaning it’ll only work on surfaces lined with metal to allow it to bounce off — but this one seems to float at least a full inch or two off the ground (compared to Hendo’s few centimeters).

So, what sets the Lexus board apart? It uses liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors and magnets to keep it flying, which is why it has that extremely cool fog coming out of it. The board also features a bamboo surface, which is basically just there to look really cool (this is Lexus we’re talking about). We wouldn’t expect this thing to get a consumer release anytime soon (and if it did, it’d likely have an insane price tag), but it’s still a fascinating piece of tech.

Check out a tantalizing video introducing the device below, and let us know what you think:
