Director Daniel Espinosa's thriller Life has a very familiar plotline in the pantheon of sci-fi fare ... though the cast alone may end up elevating it above other alien space melodramas.

Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson and Ryan Reynolds, the story details the discovery of extraterrestrial life aboard the International Space Station after the crew ropes in a returning Red Planet probe infected with Mars germs.
