Lightning McQueen is back, baby! Disney-Pixar has finally unleashed the first adrenaline-pumping trailer for Cars 3.

Directed by first-time helmer Brian Fee (he previously worked as a storyboard artist on Cars and Cars 2 — Cars 3 is his first directing gig), the movie features the return of Owen Wilson as the voice of Lightning McQueen, Larry the Cable Guy as Mater, Bonnie Hunt as Sally Carrera and Cheech Marin as Ramone. Cars 3 will also introduce brand-new characters in Jackson Storm (voiced by Armie Hammer) and Cruz Ramirez (Cristela Alonzo).

The extended sneak peek — which features some jaw-dropping animation, by the way — doesn't give away too much but introduces the movie's main antagonist and our hero's rival: Jackson Storm. Also, that car crash sequence at the very beginning (half of that footage was previously shown) is pretty dark for a kid's movie, but at least the rest of the teaser has a much lighter tone. Have a look at the official synopsis before digging into the trailer below.

Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game he will need the help of eager young female race technician Cruz Ramirez. Proving that #95 isn't through yet, he will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing's biggest stage against his new rival, Jackson Storm.

Cars 3 will race into movie theaters on June 16, 2017.
