Sarah Connor may have never looked as lean, mean, and ready for action as she does in 2018. In the first photos from the set of the upcoming Terminator sequel, Linda Hamilton almost looks like she could go back in time and give her former self a seriously legit scare.

Fan site The Terminator Fans got its hands on images of Hamilton and Terminator co-star Mackenzie Davis in costume and on the set of the in-development, Tim Miller-directed movie (he’s the guy who directed Deadpool), and both actors look as chiseled and ready to topple the machine-led apocalypse as anyone could possibly have hoped for.

We still don’t know much about where Sarah Connor or Arnold Schwarzenegger’s returning Terminator character fit in to the film, but we do know that casting Davis in the role of a younger female protagonist was vital to fulfilling the demands of the script, which is being developed as part of the James Cameron-produced sequel by David S. Goyer, Charles Eglee, Justin Rhodes, and Josh Friedman.

The sequel will ignore its immediate predecessors (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Terminator: Salvation, and Terminator: Genisys) and instead follow the canon set down in the original Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Cameron himself has said that casting Hamilton, his ex-wife, is a no-brainer for the new movie — thanks in no small part to the inimitable toughness she’s conveyed every time her character has stared into the fiery face of death.

“‘We created this thing several decades ago,’” Cameron said he told Hamilton when persuading her to rejoin the franchise. “‘But, here's what can be really cool. You can come back and show everybody how it's done.’ Because in my mind, it hasn't been done a whole lot since the way she did it back in ’91.”

If these new photos are anything to go by, we’d be the last to argue. You can check out more about Hamilton on the set at The Terminator Fans’ post, while we wait for the new movie to hit theaters in November of 2019.
