Listen to Strong Female Characters #3: all about Marvel and women in STEM

Dec 12, 2017

It's Tuesday, and you know what that means: There's another episode of our SYFY Fangrrls podcast, Strong Female Characters, available now wherever you prefer to listen to your podcasts!

This week, it's all about women in STEM -- both in fiction and in real life. We touch on some of the most well-known scientists and tech experts in comics, including two of the smartest supers: Riri "Ironheart" Williams, Lunella Lafayette (aka "Moon Girl"), as well as Mockingbird's Bobbi Morse and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Jemma Simmons. We also talk to NASA engineer Powtawche Valerino about her background in STEM and her role working at NASA's JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory). Listen to the episode below!

Strong Female Characters examines our favorite female characters and storylines in genre and draws parallels to their real-life counterparts and current events. Fangrrls managing editor Cher Martinetti and contributing editor Preeti Chhibber welcome a different guest each week to explore oft-used tropes, representation in media, and the surprising and sometimes humorous ways in which pop culture and science fiction can influence our daily lives.
