When Rhys Ifans was cast as the latest Spider-Man villain Monday, the speculation began—WHICH Spider-Man villain? A new version of the Green Goblin or Venom? Or some never-before-seen onscreen Big Bad?
It turns out that Ifans will bring to life one of the webslinger's oldest villains, the Lizard, who first appeared way back in 1963 in Amazing Spider-Man #6, making him a year older than the Green Goblin.
The Lizard—or at least his nonreptilian identity of Dr. Curt Connors—was seen in earlier Spider-Man movies played by Dylan Baker, who we hope doesn't feel too bad about this turn of events.
The rebooted Spider-Man is due to hit theaters July 3, 2012.
So what do you think? Is Ifans the right actor? Is the Lizard the right villain?
