After years of rumors, the Boba Fett movie is reportedly one step closer to becoming a reality.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Logan helmer James Mangold has been signed by Lucasfilm to write and direct a standalone Star Wars film about the galaxy’s most feared bounty hunter: Boba Fett.

Story details are currently under wraps, but the new movie will likely take place before Boba Fett’s untimely demise during Return of the Jedi. That may seem obvious, but Boba Fett survived his apparent death and lived for decades in the Expanded Universe, before The Force Awakens wiped all of that away.

Despite minimal dialogue and only a few minutes of screentime, Boba Fett captured the imaginations of Star Wars fans when he made his big-screen debut in The Empire Strikes Back. Fett’s unceremonious early exit into the depths of the Sarlacc pit in Return of the Jedi was extremely disappointing for fans who had built up their own mythology around him. George Lucas finally fleshed out Fett’s backstory in Attack of the Clones, by establishing the young Boba (Daniel Logan) as the cloned son of Jango Fett (Temuera Morrison).

While Logan has reprised his role as Fett on Star Wars: The Clone Wars, it seems likely that the role will be recast for the new movie. Perhaps Mangold will even decide to keep Fett’s helmet on for the entire movie, to recreate some of the mystique that he originally had.

Lucasfilm hasn’t revealed when the Boba Fett movie may head into production, but it’s far from the only Star Wars movie on the docket. The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is developing a brand-new trilogy set outside of the Skywalker Saga, while Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are also developing their own movies within the Star Wars universe. Obi-Wan Kenobi is rumored to be the subject of the next anthology film, with director Stephen Daldry reportedly attached
