James Mangold’s superhero deconstruction Logan was fantastic, and the black and white cut looks to bring an even more grounded flair to the film. If you need a taste, this should do it.
Dubbed Logan Noir, the black and white version of the film follows the trend we’ve been seeing with projects like Mad Max: Fury Road. The visuals in these films are stark and stunning, and cut all the more with a more muted presentation. The studio has released a trailer for Logan Noir, which is still set to the same Johnny Cash tune from the early trailers. When accompanying the black and white footage, it almost feels like a straight-up Johnny Cash video.
For those lucky enough to see it, there’s a screening of the black and white cut at the Alamo Drafthouse this week. For the rest of us, it’ll be included on the film’s home release on May 23. However you see it, it’s almost guaranteed to be haunting.
