Marvel Studios surprised fans everywhere when it announced Patty Jenkins as the director of Thor 2, and one person who is very pleased about the choice is the villainous Loki.

The studio made movie history of a sort last week when it announced that Jenkins—best known for directing Charlize Theron as serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster—would be the first woman to direct a superhero movie with Thor 2. Actor Tom Hiddleston, who plays Thor's evil adopted brother Loki, told MTV News (video below) that Jenkins is a great choice:

"She's amazing. I actually had dinner with her earlier this week and she's sensational, a really amazing woman and quite clearly an amazing director."

Hiddleston, who claims that Thor director Kenneth Branagh told him to watch Theron's performance in Monster as research for giving Loki a "quality of vulnerability," explained what he thinks Jenkins will bring to the God of Thunder's saga:

"She clearly has an incredible grasp of story and character and a very powerful emotional engine behind her, which I think is what we need."

Thor 2 will be the third Marvel film, following Thor and the upcoming The Avengers, in which Loki will appear, and Hiddleston also gave his thoughts on where the character will go in that next installment and how Jenkins will guide the story:

"What happens in Thor 2 has to evolve after what's happened in The Avengers, so I'd say he takes a pretty good hiding from Odin when he gets back home, but I honestly don't know at this point. The thing about Patty is she has an innate courage and complete understanding of the muscularity of a character like Thor, but also a sensitivity and a nobility and things like Monster and (AMC pilot) The Killing which she directed, don't shy away from darkness, they don't shy away from murkier aspects of human nature and I think her fearlessness about all that will make Thor 2 quite interesting."

So there you have it, Loki himself—who many agree was one of the best things about Thor—is on board with Thor 2's new director. We'll find out if his instincts were right when Thor 2 opens on the distant date of Nov. 15, 2013.
