It’s one of the biggest videogame franchises out there, but we still have a long way to go until we have a legit Assassin’s Creed film to sneak up and slash our throats at the box office.

Writers Adam Cooper and Bill Collage (Exodus: Gods & Kings) have signed on to take another crack at the script still bouncing around New Regency. The live-action film is expected to star Michael Fassbender (Prometheus, X-Men: First Class) in the lead role.

The long-running videogame series, which dates back to 2007, follows the rivalry between two secret societies and a highly trained assassin as he navigates a dense sci-fi mystery. As in most modern videogames, the source material is as cinematic as most films, so here’s hoping they can tap into that awesomeness.

This is just one of many videogame-based films in the works, and if at least half of these actually make it through development in a reasonable amount of time, we could be on the verge of a comic-book-like renaissance at the box office.

Would you like to see Assassin’s Creed on the big screen? Is Fassbender a good choice?
