Eighth Doctor Paul McGann has come out in support of a former Game of Thrones actor to play the role of the Master on Doctor Who.
McGann is backing up Game of Thrones actor Charles Dance (who's now sadly out of a job since his character, the great Lord Tywin Lannister, was ignominiously killed with a crossbow by his son, Tyrion, while the poor guy was busy sittin' on the privy -- what a way to go. Pun intended) as the Master, saying Dance would be "great" as the next incarnation of our favorite Time Lord's greatest nemesis.
The always awesome Charles Dance’s name has been attached to the part since at least June, when the rumor mill hinted at the Master showing up in a major, dramatic cliffhanger set to end Who's upcoming eighth season.
McGann – who has co-starred alsongside Charles Dance in Alien³ -- told Flicks and the City:
“He’d be great, he’s a fantastic actor. He’s still got a twinkle in his eye. I don’t know where he gets it from, but he’s always had it.”
“The Master is never going to go away, is he. Rather like the Doctor himself he can take any guise, so I suppose he could look like an ageing roué from the depths of space.
“He’d bring great gravitas and old fashioned charm.”
The last time we saw the Master -- who was then played to maddening perfection by John Simm -- was in David Tennant's swan song as the Tenth Doctor two-parter story, "The End of Time."
So, how would you guys like to see Charles Dance lord it over Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor as the new Master? Do you agree with Paul McGann's support of the former Game of Thrones actor?
