A certain, mysterious Game of Thrones season-two fan-favorite character may be set to make an unexpected return for the upcoming fifth season. Want to know who it is?
According to the German agency of actor Tom Wlaschiha — who played the charmingly deadly Lorathi assassin (and Faceless Man) Jaqen H’ghar in the second season of Thrones — the actor is set to return for season five.
This is what the agency says (via Spoiler TV):
"the actor is shooting a 2014 episode of the crime solving series Tatort entitled, “Borowski und die armen Kinder von Gaarden, ” and after that, in August, he’ll begin filming on Game of Thrones. The agency notes that Tom is in the main cast."
This has not been officially confirmed by HBO yet, so take it with at least with a tiny little grain of salt. But, according to the actor's agency, it seems we’ll be seeing the Faceless Man again for the upcoming fifth season: even though Jaqen H'ghar himself hasn’t popped back in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire saga just yet. He last appeared in A Clash of Kings, although there IS a Faceless Man still doing some business in Westeros in the books.
If true, this would not be the first time the hit HBO fantasy series has departed from the books’ storylines. Just yesterday, Michelle Fairley confirmed that we wouldn’t be seeing Lady Stoneheart on the show – which is a massive bummer, if you ask us.
The last time Jaqen H’ghar was seen on Game of Thrones was in the season two finale when he gave Arya (Maisie Williams) an old iron coin with the instruction to say “Valar Morgulis” to any Braavosi for help — right before he changed his face and walked away; a coin Arya finally used in order to take ship and sail to Braavos at the end of the season four finale “The Children.”
Since Jaqen is still alive in both the books and the TV series — albeit with a different face — many fans have been expecting to see the charming assassin again. And it looks like David Benioff and Dan Weiss will make that particular bit happen.
One of the theories is that Jaqen may take the place of the Kindly Man who becomes Arya’s teacher in the House of Black and White in Braavos in the fourth book of the series, A Feast for Crows.
What do you guys think? Are you looking forward to the possible return of Tom Wlaschiha as Jaqen H’ghar in Game of Thrones?
