Producer Michael Bay has filled another essential role in Ninja Turtles. Monday night, it was announced that Danny Woodburn would play the Turtles' teacher and surrogate father, Master Splinter.
Woodburn now joins Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, Pete Ploszek as Leonardo, Noel Fisher as Michelangelo and Megan Fox as April O'Neil. Will Arnett was previously cast in an unspecified role.
Woodburn has over 70 credits to his name and has had success in both television and film. He's appeared on shows like Seinfeld and Charmed, as well as movies such as Watchmen and Mirror, Mirror. Ninja Turtles will be a live-action/motion capture hybrid, which is expected to reboot the long-running property
Like the Turtles, Master Splinter is also a victim of mutation. He's a giant rat that trains the foursome in the art of ninjutsu while raising them as his sons. He has a tumultuous history with a former ninja named Oroku Saki (The Shredder), which goes back years. It spills over onto the Turtles, who become his new targets.
Ninja Turtles is directed by Jonathan Liebesman and opens in theaters June 6, 2014.
