Great news, fellow Whovians! Looks like another classic Doctor Who monster is set to make its very, very long-awaited return to the beloved sci-fi series next year. Can you guess which old-time monster the Doctor (Matt Smith) and his brand-new companion Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman) will be facing off against?

If you guys recognized the two greenish asparagus-like alien thingies on the grainy pic above, then you already know which classic Who monster we're talking about.

According to a source for the Daily Star, the BBC bigwigs are planning to bring back a race of reptilian humanoids from Mars called the Ice Warriors.

The last time the Ice Warriors were seen on Doctor Who was way back when in 1974, when our beloved Mad Man in that Big Blue Box was then played by the late, great John Pertwee, who some of you guys will recall played the Earth-stranded Third Doctor.

This is what the Daily Star states:

They are making their return in 2013—the 50th anniversary of the show which now stars Matt Smith, 29. The Ice Warriors will be among the first creatures encountered by the Time Lord's new companion, played by Jenna, 26, following her arrival in the Christmas Day special.

And the episode will be penned by Sherlock star Mark Gatiss, 45.

A source said: "Who fans have been crying out for the return of the Ice Warriors. Now they've got their wish. "It's going to be an exciting year with the 50th anniversary celebrations."

"But, hold on a sec," you might add: "Didn't we hear some snippets about the Ice Warriors oh, just about two years ago?" Yep, yep, we did indeed. The Ice Warriors were briefly mentioned by David Tennant's Tenth Doctor during the brilliant and terrifying special "The Waters of Mars."

The Doctor had theorized that the Ice Warriors had found the Flood on Mars and froze it there. Then they evacuated Mars, but the humans later found it with the horrifying results we know.

The Ice Warriors are only the latest addition in a line of much-touted returning villains, including the Yeti and the Zygons, which makes us believe (if everything pans out to be true, of course) that something really massive may indeed be brewing for Who's 50th anniversary.

So what do you guys think? Do you believe it'll happen, that the Ice Warriors will really make their long-awaited comeback on Doctor Who? And are you looking forward to see how they'll update the greenish monsters' cheesy, outdated look?
