Casting rumors giveth, and then they taketh away. That's exactly what happened with José Padilha's RoboCop remake. One of the film's key roles has yet to be filled, and its front-runner has jumped ship.

Variety's Jeff Sneider recently tweeted that British actor Hugh Laurie is no longer in the running to play RoboCop's nemesis.

Earlier this summer, Variety reported that Laurie was in talks to play "the villainous CEO of Omni Corp, which creates the title character for its own gain."

Laurie's exit hasn't stopped the rest of the cast from growing. Over the past few weeks there's been an influx of talent. Joining Joel Kinnaman and Gary Oldman are Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Kenneth Williams, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel, Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Abbie Cornish.

RoboCop opens in theaters Aug. 9, 2013.
