Lucasfilm is looking to target younger audiences with the upcoming and "Star Wars Kids" YouTube channel.

The first offerings to be released are six animated shorts titled Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures, which re-create scenes from the original trilogy in a bold new (not to mention kid-friendly) style from director Barry Kelly and Titmouse Animation.

“With Galaxy of Adventures, we wanted to craft something that allowed parents to help their kids take their first step into a much larger world whether they were ready to show their kids the films or wanted to find new ways to explore the content,” James Waugh, Lucasfilm’s vice president for franchise content and strategy, said in the official announcement

Dialogue, music, and sound effects from the first three movies (and three prequels) can be heard across the shorts. While these videos are meant to introduce a younger audience to the galaxy far, far away, longtime Star Wars fans will be able to find new things in them as well.

"They took on the challenge, and embraced the opportunity to leverage the medium and target audience to breathe new life into scenes from the original trilogy, or create new scenes, new moments that exemplify the heroism of the characters; their key traits,” Waugh explained.

Galaxy of Adventures will encompass a year's worth of Skywalker-based stories, which will eventually climax with Star Wars: Episode IX (hitting theaters Dec. 20, 2019). By bringing the space-set saga to children in the most sensible way, Lucasfilm is hoping that kids will become invested in the characters and want to see IX with their parents next year.

“Over the years, I’ve had so many of my friends who are parents tell me how much they wanted to introduce their kids to Star Wars but didn’t feel that their kids were quite ready for the movies yet. They wanted a way to celebrate the universe they love," Waugh added, noting that the creators are "passionate about what Star Wars can be for kids — to light up those early imaginations.”

Both and the "Star Wars Kids" YouTube channel launch Nov. 30. More shorts, featuring other fan favorites, are set to arrive in December. In the new year, shorts are set to arrive at regular intervals.
