Two years ago, the Internet exploded with praise for the live-action fan film Street Fighter: Legacy. Now two of the makers of that film are getting the chance to revisit the style and characters from their film for a full-scale series. That's right, we're getting a live-action Street Fighter show.

Titled Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist, the series will be a joint production of Capcom and production company Assassin's Fist Limited, and will serve as a prequel for two of the videogame franchise's most enduring characters: Ryu and Ken.

The show will follow the two martial artists during their formative years training in Japan as they master the fighting style known as "Ansatsuken" (Assassin's Fist), which they are apparently the last practitioners of (though they don't know that). Along the way, they will discover the past of Gouken, their master, and learn the shady history of Ansatsuken.

The series is being created by Joey Ansah, one of the minds who brought Legacy to YouTube (where it now has millions of views) last year. Ansah will co-write the series with Christian Howard, who co-starred in Legacy as Ken.

"Our priority is to stay true to the appearance, fighting techniques and canon of the Street Fighter game," Howard said. "At the same time we've managed to make this an emotion- and character-driven story, which will surprise viewers who might just be expecting a super faithful fight fest!"

Ansah called the series a further development of the "taster" that is Legacy, and said the show will hopefully serve as a springboard for future Street Fighter stories.

"This takes the story right back to the start—the origins and motivations of Ryu, Ken, Gouken and Akuma," he said. "This will become the definitive backstory from which further epic adventures will follow."

Check out the announcement video starring Howard and Ansah below. The series is expected to debut sometime next year.
