Maisie Williams, who has played Arya Stark since the show premiered back in 2011, reflected on her time on the hit series, speaking with The Guardian about what it was like filming her final scene. And although she was careful not to reveal anything that could be interpreted as a spoiler, Williams did tell the publication that Arya Stark’s final scene in the series was “beautiful” and “perfect.”
“I ended on the perfect scene,” said Williams. “I was alone — shocker! Arya’s always bloody alone. But I was alone, and I had watched a lot of other people wrap. I knew the drill, I had seen the tears and heard the speeches.”
Williams, who now sports a GoT-inspired tattoo like her fellow former co-stars, also admitted that she “had a lot more to do” in this season, which is of course good news for Arya fans (and not terribly surprising, considering the cast has become considerably pared down over the course of the series).
In July, Williams took to Instagram to post a picture of a pair of (fake) blood-soaked shoes, along with the cryptic message: "goodbye belfast. goodbye arya. goodbye game of thrones. what a joy i’ve had. here’s to the adventures to come #lastwomanstanding #barely #immasleepforthenextfouryears #justkiddingidontsleep"
Last woman standing, but barely, eh? Guess we'll just have to wait and see what she means by that (though, we obviously have some theories). Well played, Williams. Well played.
Game of Thrones returns to HBO for its final season in 2019.
