Major Marvel villain wants out, would only return 'if they forced me to'

One of Marvel's most formidable foes is ready to throw in the towel. It's no secret the studio usually signs its stars for multiple film deals. That way, if they have a major hit, they can fully capitalize on it. But one actor's had his fill of the Marvel Universe and has no interest in returning.

After appearing in last year's Captain America: The First Avenger, Hugo Weaving is finished. In an interview with Collider, the actor revealed that he has no desire to reprise his role as Red Skull. Even though he's contractually obligated, he'd just prefer not to.

I think the tendency, with those films, would be to probably not bring a villain back. They might for The Avengers, but I didn't think I'd be in Captain America 2 or 3. I don't think Red Skull will be there. And it's not something I would want to do again. I'm glad I did it. I did sign up for a number of pictures and I suppose, contractually, I would be obliged to, if they forced me to, but they wouldn't want to force someone to do it, if they didn't want to. I think I've done my dash with that sort of film. It was good to do it and try it out, but to be honest, it's not the sort of film I seek out and really am excited by. As an actor, to do all sorts of different films is great. It stretches you in different ways. But, I increasingly like to go back to what I used to always do, which is to get involved with projects that I really have a personal affiliation with.

It sounds like Weaving's not interesting in pulling a Loki. Tom Hiddleston appears in Thor, The Avengers and the upcoming sequel, Thor: The Dark World. If Weaving's done wearing the red mask, let him move on. Captain America will already have his hands full with Bucky, aka the Winter Soldier.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens April 4, 2014.

But how about you? Do you want Red Skull to return for a sequel?
