Marvel's amazing 25-issue Star Wars: Darth Vader run from writer Kieron Gillen and artist Salvador Larocca was one of the high-water marks for the House of Idea's splash back into the Star Wars comic pool, after their acquisition by Disney in 2012.

In this absorbing storyline, which ran from 2015-2016, Vader was a disgraced instrument of intimidation, wielded by the Emperor in the aftermath of the Battle of Yavin in Star Wars: A New Hope. Recruiting his own motley crew of assassins -- including rogue archaeologist Doctor Aphra, the infamous Boba Fett, torture droids Triple-Zero and BT-1, and the colossal wookiee bounty hunter, Black Krrsantan -- Vader sets out to discover the identity of the Force-strong rebel pilot who eluded the Empire's finest and destroyed the Death Star.

Now with Star Wars: Darth Vader #1, the most notorious dark lord in all of Star Wars Land has earned a second ongoing series, written by Charles Soule (Letter 44) with art by Giuseppe Camuncoli (Green Valley). The title will explore Vader's early years directly following the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, delving into Anakin Skywalker's transformation into the cruel, caped machine we all fear and love.

Here's the solicitation synopsis and description:

The most fearsome villain in the entire galaxy returns for an all-new series -- Prepare for DARTH VADER #1! This June, superstar writer Charles Soule (Poe Dameron, Astonishing X-Men) will team with chartbusting artist Giuseppe Camuncoli (Amazing Spider-Man) to chronicle the epic rise of one of the greatest villains in all of fiction!

When Anakin Skywalker fell, both to the pull of the dark side and to the blade of Obi-Wan Kenobi, he rose back up, more machine than man. Having lost everything that he once held dear, the one who was prophesied to bring balance to the Force instead chose a darker path. Now, in a story set directly after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, he must take his first steps into a darker world as … Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith!

“With the all-new DARTH VADER series, we will finally get the chance to witness iconic moments in the Star Wars galaxy through the lens of one of its most famous characters,” said series editor, Jordan D. White. “With Charles Soule and Giuseppe Camuncoli at the helm, we are going to spotlight the construction of Vader’s red lightsaber, the fallout of Order 66, the beginnings of the Inquisitor program, the rise of an Empire, and many more sinister moments never seen before!

Bear witness to the rebirth pangs of Anakin Skywalker in this look back at Vader's moment of inception in the preview below. Then let us know if you'll follow the chilling villain on this next series of formative exploits across the galaxy. Star Wars: Darth Vader #1 drops on June 7.
