Manifest: Prepare for takeoff with first act of Robert Zemeckis' new supernatural thriller

Flight crew, please prepare for disappearance. NBC's mystery-drama Manifest premieres in late September, but you won't have to wait until then to get a glimpse of the initial episode. The network has revealed the show's entire first act for our viewing pleasure.

Watch it below and let us know what you're most excited to see throughout the episode, as well as the rest of the first season!

Executive-produced by Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Flight), the series follows a planeful of passengers, who experience what they think is a routine electrical storm and turbulence. Upon landing, however, they learn that, somehow, they've been missing for the last five and a half years, presumed dead by the authorities and their loved ones. Not only that, but they haven't even aged in the time they've been missing.

As you can see in the video above, the show wastes no time getting us into the thick of things, introducing us to a family of characters who are dealing with marriage proposals and cancer treatments. These familiar problems and decisions get an interesting twist when our protagonists find themselves out of time... quite literally. One of the most intriguing things that the first act teases is how the relationship of the twins, Cal and Olive, will be affected after one has grown while the other hasn't.

Part of the narrative will follow those who disappeared as they try to pick up the pieces of their lives that have breezed by without them. All the while, we'll be exploring just what the hell happened to the plane that went missing for half a decade. Maybe it hit 88 miles per hour and shot straight forward into the future. Ok, sorry, no more Zemeckis jokes.

Fans of Stephen King, LostFringe, and NBC's own The Event will most certainly get a kick out of this latest network offering, which has some chilling parallels to air travel in our own world.

Manifest — starring Melissa Roxburgh (Valor), Josh Dallas (Once Upon a Time), Athena Karkanis (Zoo), J.R. Ramirez (Power), and Luna Blaise (Fresh Off the Boat) — premieres on NBC Monday, Sept. 24, at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Will you be boarding?
