Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy have officially come on board Warner Bros. Animation’s adaptation of Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s 1988 iconic one-shot graphic novel, Batman: The Killing Joke.
According to Comic Book Resources, Conroy and Hamill (who will always be THE ultimate Joker in my book) will reprise their voice-acting roles of Batman and the Joker, respectively, for the highly anticipated animated movie. The actors previously teamed up for Batman: The Animated Series, which ran from 1992 to 1995. They’ll be joined by Tara Strong as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl and Ray Wise as Commissioner Gordon.
Strong previously voiced Batgirl in various TV series, animated films and video games, including The New Batman Adventures and Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, while Ray Wise is known for his work on Twin Peaks, Reaper and, most recently, Agent Carter. The actor previously voiced Perry White on Superman: Doomsday.
Here’s what Hamill said about reprising the role of The Clown Prince of Crime:
“The chance to work once again with Kevin Conroy, my favorite Batman, in what some consider the definitive origin of this iconic villain is a dream come true for me. I am beyond thrilled to return as The Joker in 'The Killing Joke!'”
With Kevin Conroy adding:
“I’ve had the great privilege of voicing Batman for more than two decades, and some of my favorite moments in the recording booth have been alongside Mark Hamill. Mark always enables me to be a better actor. I’m thrilled that we’re both back to bring these characters to life in one of the most heralded Batman/Joker stories of all time.”
Batman: The Killing Joke will have its world premiere during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, with the animated movie set to arrive in stores later in the summer.
Following the geektastic announcement, Hamill revealed the first image from the movie, which sees the Caped Crusader and Hamill's Joker nose to nose, in a series of tweets.
