As geek fantasies go, it’s pretty hard to top Luke Skywalker joining forces with the creator of Spider-Man. But that’s exactly what we got when Mark Hamill and Stan Lee paired up recently to talk about their killer real-life collaboration for Marvel’s upcoming Avengers: Black Panther’s Quest.

In a Marvel-hosted pal-around that clearly reveals an unmistakable camaraderie between these two veterans of awesomeness, Lee and Hamill tossed plenty of barbs each other’s way — but none of it could conceal their mutual respect and admiration.

Marvel put together the interview to promote the upcoming season of its animated Avengers series. Both Hamill (Arnim Zola) and Lee are doing voice work on the show, which will head into its fifth season with a new Black Panther storyline.

Hamill said he grew up on Marvel comics and, thanks to the way Lee instilled his own personality into the characters, felt connected with the comics legend — long before he ever became an entertainer himself.

“See, I’m just a comic book geek,” said Hamill. “When I was a kid in the ‘60s, I would read the Marvel comics, and Stan created a real bond with his audience… He really had a personality that came across over the pages. He’s sort of this avuncular uncle you wish you had.”

Suitably honored, Uncle Stan retorted: “If I had known he was gonna speak so nicely about me, I would have been nicer to him! I’m sorry for all the things I said,” he joked. “I really do like you!”

Hamill, Lee cracked, is “terrible, because when I hear him read the lines — when I hear how talented he is — and he can do another dialect and become another person, it’s fantastic. I read lines beautifully, but only as myself.”

With this kind of cast rapport, Marvel’s Avengers: Black Panther’s Quest should be a fun ride. Marvel says Season 5 will debut on Disney XD sometime this fall, and we've definitely got our eyes peeled for this one.
