Fans apparently weren't the only ones excited to hear the news that Billy Dee Williams would be joining the cast of Star Wars: Episode IX. Fellow cast member Mark Hamill (who, yes, will also be in the final installment of the new Star Wars trilogy) took to social media to express his excitement that he would be in the next entry within the series and that he'd be reuniting with his Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi co-star.
"It's finally fine to admit #ImInIX-Billy Dee @realbdw too-which is long overdue (No one's ever really gone)," Hamill wrote on Twitter. "Now only 17 months of 'no comment's when asked about it to avoid revealing details or fueling speculation #SeeYouAroundKids"
Williams played the charismatic (albeit originally treacherous) Lando Calrissian in Empire Strikes Back and redeems himself by joining the Rebel Alliance and leading the charge against the second Death Star in Return of the Jedi. Donald Glover recently portrayed a younger version of Lando in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Although Williams lent his voice acting talents to play the role he made famous in the animated series Star Wars Rebels (and The Lego Movie), he was noticeably absent in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi (Episodes VII and VIII, respectively).
So. Are you all as excited as Hamill is that Williams is back? Let us know in the comments below.
Star Wars: Episode IX is set to begin filming on Aug. 1 in Pinewood Studios in London. It arrives in theaters on Dec. 20, 2019.
