After two so-so efforts, Marvel seemed to have hung up the purple shorts in regard to a standalone Hulk film. But the big green guy might still get one more chance.

Despite constant rumors of a new Hulk film (See: PLANET HULK ZOMG!), Marvel has been mum on the prospects of giving Bruce Banner another shot, instead keeping him as a major player in the team-up Avengers films. But Mark Ruffalo’s effortlessly awesome take on the character finally has them reconsidering.

In a chat with Digital Spy, Ruffalo revealed that the company is actually considering a new Hulk movie — which is the first legitimate confirmation that talks are even taking place in Kevin Feige’s fortress of secrets:

“I think they are, for the first time, entertaining the idea of it. When we did The Avengers it was basically 'No!', and now there is some consideration for it. But there's still nothing definitive, not even a skeletal version of what it would be. I look forward to going down that road, if we could crack that nut.”

Once Age of Ultron opens, we’ll have had two (hopefully good) movies to cleanse our palates of those uneven efforts from the early to mid-2000s. It will also put the character in a very different position than the early origin story phase we saw in 2008’s Incredible Hulk, meaning they could actually dig in and tell some awesome comic-inspired stories. Like, you know, Planet Hulk.

Now the big question — what Hulk story would you like to see for the next standalone film (Hint: It's Planet Hulk - Ed.)?
