The Transformers franchise is getting a makeover. It's got a new leading man, and two fresh-faced co-stars. Mark Wahlberg headlines the sequel, which he believes kicks it up a notch.

While promoting his upcoming film Broken City, Wahlberg spoke about his blockbuster gig. The actor and director Michael Bay just worked together on the upcoming film Pain and Gain. The experience was so great that they wanted to do it again. According to Wahlberg, "He said to me (on set), 'What do you think about doing a Transformers movie with me?' I said, 'Well, what do you want me to do?' He told me and I said, 'Absolutely!'"

Despite Wahlberg's impressive resume, with parts in The Fighter and The Departed, he says Transformers 4 "will be the most challenging role that I've played." He spoke to producers Steven Spielberg and Brian Grazer and assured them this wasn't about money. He wanted a family-friendly blockbuster under his belt.

"I said, 'Don't worry, guys, this is not me taking a paycheck and running with it. This is me trying to ... I liked what the guys did with, like, The Avengers, for instance. When I watched that movie I was not interested in seeing it at all, but it was entertaining for me as well as for my kids. I think they did a really good job, and we want to do something special with it, so I'm excited about it."

Transformers 4 begins shooting in May and hits theaters June 27, 2014.
