Details on comics publisher Humanoids' new plans are coming into focus, thanks to its new Director of Creative Development, Mark Waid. In this SYFY WIRE video exclusive, the Archie, Kingdom Come, and Flash writer promises a new wave of comics with fresh talent. The comics, he said, are about what people do in a world that frustrates them.
“I'm here as a voice, as a consultant, as somebody who has 35 years of experience,” Waid says.
Waid's hire follows other moves to revamp Humanoids' creative team. Planetary and Astonishing X-Men artist John Cassaday has also boarded the team as Humanoids' chief creative officer.
You can catch all of Waid's comments here in this exclusive video:
At New York Comic Con, the publisher announced it was launching H1, a shared superhero universe. The new line will also be heavy on consequences; there are no secret identities, masks, capes, or cowls in these stories, according to Waid. Some of the creators involved in this include Dennis Calero, Carla Speed McNeil, and Yanick Paquette.
The new role at Humanoids is advisory in nature, Waid said, and he will help Humanoids' creators refine their comics. He says he hopes different readers will each find an echo of themselves in the new line.
“Younger voices, different voices, more diverse voices that can teach me — that's appealing,” he said.
Humanoids' H1 line launches in 2019, with three ongoing series and several miniseries.
