There's been no shortage of early criticism over the upcoming ABC series Marvel's Inhumans – and now the cast have come out fighting, imploring us to give their version of the Inhuman Royal Family a chance.
The show – which will hit IMAX theatres this Friday before airing on ABC for free on Sept. 29 – got savaged by some critics when it was rolled out at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills, California earlier this month.
"We're kind of just loosely based on the comics," Ken Leung told Associated Press on Tuesday, when asked about the aforementioned digs. "I think maybe the source of some of the mixed reactions to the little that people have seen so far [is that] there are a lot of people that love the comics, they’ve been around for decades, and it remains to be seen how people will accept something that is its own iteration of something that’s already beloved."
Mixed reactions? That's a very polite way of putting it. According to Uproxx, Anson Mount – who plays Black Bolt – was asked by a reporter earlier this month at the TCAs about the show not being very good, which prompted to the actor to reply: "You're making me feel like Ben Affleck right now." (Referencing the oh-so-melancholy Sad Affleck viral video.)
On Tuesday, Mount was also on the defensive, telling the AP: "I think that the quote-on-quote awkwardness at the [TCAs] was blown out of proportions. There was all this news that we ended the Q&A early, which we did not. It was actually scheduled to end at that time. I think people should just see the thing."
All I'm going to say about this is that after the cruel cancellation of Marvel's Agent Carter – this show has some pretty big shoes to fill.
