One of the most interesting things about Secret Wars, the current Marvel event, has been seeing how many weird alternate-reality characters might actually have a chance to stick around for a while. As Marvel continues to roll out its "All-New, All-Different" fall initiative, we're getting a better idea of just what the future might hold, and apparently the future holds a cross between Gwen Stacy and Deadpool.
That's right, after the success of Spider-Gwen, Marvel has decided to see what might happen if an alternate-reality version of Peter Parker's girlfriend got a little bit of Deadpool attitude. The result is a three-part origin story plus a special holiday one-shot, all arriving over the next few months.
Beginning in November, Gwenpool will be the subject of backup stories in Howard the Duck #1-3, with scripts by Christopher Hastings (The Adventures of Dr. McNinja) and art by relative newcomer Danilo Beyruth. In those stories, we'll see how Gwenpool assimilates to the new Marvel universe with the help of her new friend, Howard the Duck.
Then, in December, the character will star in Gwenpool Special #1, a holiday one-shot featuring stories about Gwenpool, She-Hulk, Clint Barton and Kate Bishop, and more.
Apart from that, we don't yet know just how big Marvel's plans for the character are, but one thing's for sure: Gwenpool is definitely going to shake up Marvel as we know it.
