Just as everyone's favorite "merc with a mouth" prepares to return to movie theaters in Deadpool 2, Marvel Comics is revamping Wade Wilson in his original form. Deadpool #1 will kick off a company-wide effort to bring fresh life to Marvel's titles, and it promises a new direction as well as a new creative team.
The upcoming Deadpool series will be written by Skottie Young, and will feature art and covers by Nic Klein. According to series director Jake Thomas (via Polygon), "Deadpool's gone through A LOT these past few years, and while he's accomplished a lot, the merc with the mouth may have taken his eye off his mercenary business for a bit too long."
Thomas goes on to state that the talented Mr. Pool will get his business running again the only way he knows how: "Maximum effort, reasonable rates."
Young is a highly interesting choice for the new book, as his I Hate Fairyland series was absolutely nuts and right in line with all of the craziness that we've come to expect from Deadpool. Thomas remarks that Young has "one of the wildest, most unhinged creative minds" he's ever worked with, and he means it as a compliment. Calling Young's ideas "fast and furious," he describes the new book as a "non-stop chaos party." Thomas is equally enthusiastic about Klein's artwork, remarking that he's never "seen him go this wild."
This all sounds like a perfect fit to us, but we'll have to wait a little longer for the series to make its debut. Though Deadpool 2 will hit theaters on May 18, Deadpool #1 won't hit the stands until June 6. Will you be picking it up? Let us know in the comments!
