In just a few weeks, Danny Rand fans will finally get to see the character in live action as Iron Fist premieres on Netflix, joining Jessica Jones, Daredevil and his buddy Luke Cage in their little corner of the Cinematic Universe. Danny's first home was comics, though, and to capitalize on all the attention he'll be getting next month, Marvel will remind us of that by kicking off a brand new Iron Fist series from writer Ed Brisson (Bullseye) and artist Mike Perkins (Deathlok).
Danny Rand's in a rough place. The mystical city of K'un-L'un is destroyed and he's struggling to maintain his powers, but the Iron Fist will not quit. Seeking to prove that he still has what it takes to be a hero, Danny will encounter a string of Seven Masters, powerful warriors from the island of Liu-Shi. He's stood against many foes, but the Bull, the Bear, the Eel, the Rabbit, the Rat, the Snake and the Wolf might just be too much for him.
I first fell in love with Iron Fist through the comics that really embrace his kung fu movie roots -- like the run by Matt Fraction, Ed Brubaker, and David Aja, which placed the character right in the middle of a mystical kung fu tournament. Now, he's facing a kung fu gauntlet of a different sort, and I think a story like this might just have what it takes to balance out the New York grit of the Netflix series and show us the many facets of what the character is capable of. Also, I really hope Fat Cobra's in it somehow. I love Fat Cobra, y'all.
Iron Fist #1 arrives March 22. Check out preview pages and several variant covers in the gallery below.
