It's a rocky time for the Guardians of the Galaxy, and we don't just mean in the movies. The group doesn't have their own comic right now, and recent events have left them disbanded for the foreseeable future, but even if the most recent incarnation of the team is gone in the pages of Marvel Comics, the Guardians will live on.

A two-page spread in the pages of Thanos Legacy #1, out from Marvel this Wednesday, features a massive roster of the publisher's cosmic characters united in one image, with the hashtag #WhoAreTheGuardians in the lower right corner. Newsarama reported the image after someone spotted it in advance copies of Thanos Legacy #1 over the weekend, and revealed that the image is preceded by the text "Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw will soon reveal... #WhoAreTheGuardians," referring to the team behind Thanos and the "Thanos Wins" story-arc which the Thanos Legacy one-shot builds on.

You can view the image — which includes Galactus, the 2008 Guardians team made famous by the Marvel Studios films, the original Guardians team, the Starjammers, Adam Warlock, the Super-Skrull, Howard the Duck, the Shi'ar Imperial Guard and more — over at Newsarama while we await confirmation of its release from Marvel.

UPDATE: Marvel officially released the promo image to press Wednesday, and here it is...

Marvel Who Are The Guardians

According to the report, the new series will arrive in January of next year, marking the first time the Guardians have had their own ongoing series since All-New Guardians of the Galaxy concluded last year. The Guardians have stuck around of course, reforming at times and going on their own solo adventures, until the events of Infinity Countdown and the just-begun Infinity Wars seemed to mark the definite end of the current incarnation of the team.

Now we just have to see what Thanos LegacyInfinity Wars and other cosmic happenings over the next few months of Marvel's schedule will do to put a new team in place, and who will make the roster.

So, what do you think? If you got your chance to build a new Guardians squad from the ground up at this point in Marvel continuity, who would you pick?

Thanos Legacy #1 is on sale tomorrow.
