Marvel is cranking up the hype train on the comic book side of things with a brand-new teaser trailer for the Infinity Countdown event series it announced late in 2017. Not only are fans getting a glimpse into the creative process; Marvel also just revealed a firm release date for Infinity Countdown #1.

The first installment in the five-part series hits comic shops on March 7, 2018, fresh on the heels of Marvel’s one-shot primer, Infinity Countdown Prime. As usual, Marvel’s pulling no punches when it comes to setting expectations high.

“With a CRASH and a BANG, the cosmic strike of the Countdown begins as the greatest epic in the history of the Infinity Stones explodes onto the pages of INFINITY COUNTDOWN!” Marvel said in its energetic press release. “This March, the hunt for the stones begins… but a new weapon of unimaginable power is being forged, and it’s a weapon like nothing the universe has ever seen!”

In addition to tons of close-ups and pans over the pages of the new first edition, the teaser trailer also features a few moments with writer Gerry Duggan, illustrator Aaron Kuder, and editor in chief C.B. Cebulski. Check it out below.

Of course it’s all about the stones, but the creative team is promising a fun element of randomness to the roster of Marvel characters who’ll be taking part in the hunt. Marvel pledged in its earlier reveal that Infinity Countdown will “include everybody from the Avengers to the X-Men and all heroes and villains in between, as the mystery surrounding the Stones swells and pulls in more and more major movers and shakers.”

All the buzz Marvel’s generating for Infinity Countdown dovetails nicely with the MCU’s current big-screen bid: the forthcoming Avengers: Infinity War. And the new comic’s March 7 release date puts it that much closer to the April 27 release of Infinity War, which Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. recently revealed in a fun, cleverly orchestrated exchange on Twitter.

If you’ve already checked out Infinity Countdown Prime, we’d love to know your thoughts on where the series is headed. And if you’re interested in getting the jump on Infinity Countdown #1, head on over to Marvel’s landing page, where you can get way more info and, yes, even pre-order.
