Casting on Marvel’s Inhumans is going roundly, and today we have news that the Marvel/IMAX miniseries has added a Smallville alum (she played Zatanna) in the role of Medusa.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Serinda Swan (Graceland, Breakout Kings, The Tomorrow People, Chicago Fire, TRON: Legacy) has been tapped to play Medusa, the Queen of the Inhumans and Black Bolt's (Hell on Wheels' Anson Mount) wife. She also joins the previously cast Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones) as Black Bolt's brother Maximus, who claimed to be in love with Medusa and often made attempts to usurp Black Bolt's throne of Attilan.

On the new Marvel series, Medusa is "Black Bolt's most trusted advisor, a fiercely resilient warrior who has the ability to move and control her hair the way most people use their hands and fingers."

A member of the Inhumans Royal Family (which also includes the still-uncast Crystal, Karnak, Triton and Lockjaw) -- a community of superhumans who gained their powers through terrigenesis (see Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) -- Medusa first appeared in the pages of Fantastic Four #36 in 1965 as Madam Medusa (the Royal Family made their first appearance several months later in Fantastic Four #45) and was created by Marvel Comics legends Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The character's trademark is her extremely long and voluminous prehensile red hair of which she controls every single strand and uses for pretty much everything, including as a weapon and as another limb.

Marvel head of TV Jeph Loeb said of Serinda Swan's casting: "Serinda empowers Medusa's regal glory and still maintains a relatability that synced perfectly with the character. She is nothing short of wonderful." With showrunner Scott Buck (Marvel's Iron Fist) adding: "Serinda Swan brings a regal elegance, as well as a sense of great inner strength and fierce determination, to the role of Medusa. I couldn't be happier to have her as our Queen of Attilan."

An ambitious eight-episode limited series, Marvel's Inhumans will "explore the never-before-told epic adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family," with some of the action taking place on the moon. The series is a first-time co-production among Marvel, ABC and IMAX. The first two episodes (to be filmed entirely with IMAX digital cameras by Roel Reine) will open in IMAX theaters over Labor Day weekend for an exclusive two-week run before premiering on ABC with exclusive TV content.
