We've got ourselves another clue about Marvel's next big event.

Today, the publisher unveiled another cryptic teaser image, simply titled "The Secret Empire Will Guard You."

That's it, that's all we got. No other information was provided, but it's hard to believe this story isn't going to revolve around the Steve Rogers Captain America as portrayed in Nick Spencer and Jesus Saiz's ongoing (and excellent) series. That comic follows Rogers as an actual agent of Hydra. You see, the Red Skull used the sentient being Kubik, made up of pieces of the Cosmic Cube, to alter Rogers' memories and ... well, it's complicated.

Whatever Secret Empire turns out to be, it's very likely it will play off events in that series, as well as serve as a follow-up on Marvel's "Divided We Stand" push from last year. The Marvel Universe is quite fractured right now after the events of Civil War II. Will the Secret Empire attempt to fill a power void? Sure seems like it, given one of the other teasers Marvel's released.

Longtime fans know the Secret Empire has been around since the early days of the Marvel U. It was a thorn in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s side and was also a central figure in a legendary Captain America story arc from the 1970s.
