Marvel is honoring some of its past classic covers with the help of its new generation of heroes. The company announced Friday that the stars of the animated series Marvel Rising will appear on five variant comic book covers, but it will be their action dolls starring on each instead of the animated characters themselves.
The impressive action doll line by Hasbro debuted in October and includes characters like Squirrel Girl, Ms. Marvel, and America Chavez. On these covers the characters will take the place of fellow heroes like Wolverine and Nick Fury.
“These covers are such a wonderful way of celebrating Marvel Rising while honoring the legacy of the great Marvel heroes that came before,” said Marvel’s vice president of content and character development Sana Amanat in a statement. “They’re a true testament to the vastness of the Marvel Universe and the incredible way they can come to life with these amazingly awesome Hasbro action dolls. I wish I had these when I was a kid!"
The Marvel Rising Twitter account offered a fun look at the variants along with the classic covers they’re referencing.
The first cover will appear on Champions #27 December 12, and the rest will follow in 2019. The action dolls are currently available at Target. The animated series will continue with two upcoming specials.
