Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy coming to Telltale Games and here’s the first teaser

After tackling the world of Westeros with their Game of Thrones game, the zombie apocalypse with The Walking Dead and, most recently, Gotham with Batman: The Telltale Series, Telltale Games are now turning their attention to the Marvel Universe.

The gaming company revealed during last night's The Game Awards that their new super-secret episodic game (to be released sometime in 2017) would be Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series and unveiled a first teaser trailer. Although this is getting me super excited about the upcoming game, the teaser doesn’t give much of anything away, as we only see a cassette player floating through space, with “Dancing in the Moonlight” playing in the headphones.

Since the cassette player is a staple of director James Gunn’s two Guardians of the Galaxy movies, could this be a hint that the game may be set in the MCU? That'll remain to be seen, but somehow I have a good feeling about this since Telltale Games will be working in partnership with Marvel to bring us the cosmic shenanigans of the biggest idiots in the galaxy. Oh, and there's also the little fact that the lettering on the Telltale Games poster is the same as the movies'. Mmm ...

Here’s what Kevin Bruner, CEO of Telltale Games said (via Comic Book Movie):

“The energizing blend of humor, emotion, teamwork, and full-on sci-fi action-adventure of the Guardians provides an enormously satisfying space to explore through Telltale’s unique style of interactive storytelling. In Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series, players will take on multiple roles within the ragtag band of heroes, and take the pilot’s seat in directing their escapades around the universe. We are always honored to be working with the best creative partners and storytellers in entertainment, and working with Marvel on this series leaves us excited to share what we’ve been developing when it premieres in 2017.”

With Jay Ong, Senior Vice President, Games & Innovation of Marvel Entertainment adding:

“With story at the core of everything that Marvel creates, who better to team with than master storytellers Telltale Games. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series fully showcases Marvel and Telltale’s rich legacy of storytelling, and fans will find themselves immersed in an original, character-driven narrative. As part of our strategy to establish a new standard for Marvel games, this is certainly among the great titles to come.”
