The Guardians of the Galaxy flick has just added a new hero to its ranks.
A little more than a month after we learned that Parks and Recreation star Chris Pratt would lead the Guardians as Star-Lord, news broke today that former WWE wrestler Dave Bautista has signed on to play Drax the Destroyer in the cosmic superhero flick. Best known for his eight years in the ring as "Batista" for WWE, Bautista's acting credits include roles in The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption, The Man With the Iron Fists and the forthcoming Riddick. And in case you're not clear on who we're talking about, he looks like this:
Yeah, definitely a guy who looks capable of destroying stuff.
As for Drax the character, he's been around since 1973. First introduced as champion to battle the mad titan Thanos, he was originally a human who was given a powerful alien body after Thanos killed his family. Like many Marvel heroes, he's lost his life a time or two, but most recently he was recruited by Star-Lord to join the 2008 incarnation of the Guardians. His powers have included incredible strength, flight and energy blasts, but more recent versions of the character have focused more on the strength and a tendency to fight with knives (yeah, he's the green guy with the knives up there on the far left). His appearance could mean Bautista will have to endure a lot of makeup or some CGI augmentation, but this casting decision at least seems like a good physical match for the comic-book character.
So, what do you think? Good casting from Marvel Studios, or will they regret not getting Jason Momoa?
