Marvel has officially announced that Jessica Henwick (Game of Thrones, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) has joined the cast of Netflix's Iron Fist alongside lead actor Finn Jones.
Although both Henwick and Jones are Game of Thrones alums — fans will recognize Henwick as one of the Sand Snakes, Nymeria Sand, while Jones portrayed Loras Tyrell on the hit HBO series — neither of them have ever crossed paths on the show.
Henwick will play kickass comic-book character Colleen Wing, a martial arts expert running her own dojo who helps out our hero Danny Rand (Jones) when he returns to his life in the Big Apple.
Colleen Wing made her first appearance in Marvel Premiere #19 back in 1974 and was created by Doug Moench and Larry Hama for Marvel Comics. She was one of Danny’s first friends when this one came back from K’un-L’un. An expert swordsman, the character kicked some criminal b***s alongside fellow “Daughters of The Dragon” Misty Knight, who'll be played by Simone Missick in Luke Cage (premiering Sept. 30 on Netflix). She also became part of the Heroes for Hire.
Here's what Iron Fist showrunner (and executive producer) Scott Buck (Six Feet Under, Dexter) said about the casting of Jessica Henwick:
“I’m very excited to have Jessica as our Colleen Wing. She’s shown us that she can bring both a sense of quiet strength as well as an engaging vulnerability to the character.”
With executive producer and Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb adding:
“Jessica brings both a youthful vitality mixed with a strong sense of authority crucial to the character. And as anyone who’s seen her in ‘Game of Thrones’ can attest, she can throw down with the best of them, making her the perfect Colleen Wing.”
Annnnd here’s an official synopsis for the upcoming series:
In “Marvel’s Iron Fist,” Daniel Rand returns to New York City after being missing for years. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.
Iron Fist is expected to enter production in just a few weeks (roughly mid-April) for a 2017 premiere. What do you think of this casting news? Do you believe Jessica Henwick will make a good Colleen Wing?
